Your new role 
We are looking to recruit an Operations Manager with experience that would complement the management of a Mechanical & Electrical Operation. The role will involve managing a team of mechanical and electrical service and project engineers to deliver service and new projects to existing and new clients worldwide. You will be responsible for coordinating materials, equipment, staff and sub-contractors to deliver international projects to schedule and within budget. Reporting to the Managing Director, you will have a strong background in operations and engineering and will have already held a management position in a similar industry. You will have a qualification in Engineering.

  • Oversee the production of engineered technical products in a cost-effective manner to meet customer demands and published lead times.
  • Manage and review production progress against deadline targets to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Review workload schedules on a daily basis.
  • The planning, management and direction of all activities (production, maintenance, procurement, warehouse, shipping and engineering,) and support services to achieve production targets, maintaining high-quality standards while improving cost efficiency.
  • Ensure that orders are manufactured correctly, cost effectively and delivered on time in accordance with company specifications, customer specifications and agreed to quality requirements.
  • Management of the Procurement function to ensure materials are purchased cost-effectively and available for production when required.
  • The role carries direct managerial responsibility for the production management, engineering management and procurement.
  • You will monitor and manage production targets and achieve the company's quarterly and annual targets with particular attention to on-time delivery, zero time lost, productivity and quality. The role will work with Sales to help define priorities for new products and work with R&D in their development.
  • Managing Health & Safety within the company.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • 10 - 15 years' experience in a low to medium volume mechanical /electrical engineering environment or equivalent.
  • Possess a broad background in mechanical/electrical, engineering/manufacturing with a wide range of knowledge on manufacturing and production processes preferably metal related.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical engineering and technical drawings.
  • Have a working understanding of production planning and scheduling, procurement, H&S best practice and legislation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to meet, greet, present and talk with customers and Senior Management.
  • Ability to build a high-performance team who can operate efficiently, effectively, productively and cost-effectively.
  • Possesses strong MS office skills. Ability to understand and navigate AutoCAD.
  • Experience in managing short, medium and long-term projects often in parallel.
